Brunswick Centre goes Greek again
28 June, 2019
A Free Event for Locals, Supporting Locals. With £100,000 Donated to Charity by the Christos Lazari Foundation.
On Thursday 20th June, The Brunswick Shopping Centre held its second ‘Go Greek! Cyprus Night’, which paid tribute to Christos Lazari [Founder of Lazari Investments Limited, who own The Brunswick].
The event attracted an astonishing 17,380 people from Bloomsbury and beyond. A fantastic celebratory, community atmosphere was created in the heart of London. Locals turned out in their droves to enjoy the fabulous spread of FREE Greek food and drink by Apollo Restaurant and Wilton Patisserie, that was laid on by Lazari, as well as a great line-up of music, dance and entertainment.
On the night, some very special donations, to some incredibly worthy local charities were announced by the Christos Lazari Foundation, which was set up in tribute to Christos Lazari. £15,000 to Great Ormond Street Hospital, £30,000 to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery – located in Queens Square very close to The Brunswick, and £5,000 to Coram – a charity based behind Brunswick Square which helps vulnerable children and young people. The extremely generous donations will make a huge difference to these life-changing local charities and the work that they do within the local and wider UK community. Finally, a further £50,000 is being donated to the Dora Village in Cyprus, the birthplace of Christos Lazari, to improve community recreational facilities in this area.
Guests at the event ate, drank and danced the night away with live entertainment from Greek music virtuosos the Tsahouridis Brothers as well as back-to-back live music and dance from acts including Diastello, The Elite Greek Dancers and The Figoura School of Greek Dance, plus as Ageliki Darra, Monica Michael, Themis the Greek Blues Man, Mary Pearce, G3orge-E and the amazing bouzouki player Costas Rialas. The event was hosted by John Themis.
Traditional plate smashing and table dancing really wowed the crowds and further entertainment was provided by George Karageorgis and Leonidas.
John Themis, Events and Marketing Manager at The Brunswick said, “My team and I along with the Lazari’s who laid this on, worked very hard to bring together this special evening, with the Cypriot community embracing and welcoming all other London communities that were present at this massive Greek celebration of food, drink, culture, music, dance and joy. Was it successful? With over 17,000 people fed, watered, and entertained for FREE, and with £100,000 donated to local and other charities by the generous Christos Lazari Foundation, I would say, to borrow a quote: ‘Success is the joy you feel.’ It was a roaring success!”
Helen Costa, customer at the event said, “Thank you so much for a beautiful event – myself and my kids loved it. We’re looking forward to the next one. It brought not only the Cypriot and Greek community together, but it also it brought all communities together and the love was felt and shared around!”
Marios Avraam, customer at the event said, “It was a truly wonderful event – so inspiring!”
Maria from North London, customer at the event said, “Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful evening. My family and I had a great time, dancing, drinking, eating, seeing old friends. Thank you to the organisers and the Lazari family for putting together this truly special night and creating this wonderful party for the community.”
