Hurricanes go for the treble

The Hurricanes will play Badu Sports FC in the final of the Camden Sunday League Senior Cup
THE unstoppable force that is The Hurricanes are just one win away from scoring a hat-trick of silverware as they continue to take the Camden Sunday League by storm this season.
The triumphant team have spent the entire campaign blowing away the opposition at Hackney Marshes, and have already captured the Division One title and the Challenge Cup.
Now, thanks to a timely treble from captain Matt Perry (pictured, below, holding the Challenge Cup), The Hurricanes have reached the Senior Cup final.
The midfielder hit a hat-trick in their semi-final against Philippine FC, while Ejike Onuchukwu was also on target in a commanding 4-1 victory – not a bad return for a club that player-manager Simon Lawrence revealed “almost folded” last summer.
After seeing his side win the Challenge Cup in February, Simon said: “We were seriously thinking about walking away before the start of the season because we simply didn’t have enough players. We didn’t want to, but it felt like the only option.
“Then we thought about our history, and the seven long years that we had already put in to running the club. We made a push on the recruitment front and, thankfully, found the players that we needed. We haven’t looked back since.”
In the final The Hurricanes will tackle Badu Sports FC, who smashed six past Auld Shillelagh in their semi-final. Forward David Bell capped a man-of-the-match performance with three goals and two assists, while strike partner Ruben Alves chipped in with two goals.
Joshua Warburton also found the back of the net as Badu Sports ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.
The final will take place at Hackney Marshes on Sunday, April 15, and will be a 10.30am kick-off.
