NHS saved my life

01 September, 2017

• A FRIEND of mine who studied medicine at Cambridge University and is a fine classical pianist phoned me to say how she laughed when she read my letter (Choirs’ role, August 18).

My friend worked in the NHS and, though now retired, still works to prevent the privatisation of the NHS. My friend is Professor Wendy Savage and she is president of Keep Our NHS Public.

In 1959, doctors and nurses in our NHS saved my life. While I may appear to be flippant regarding some areas of British society, the current desire to destroy the NHS is something I take very, very seriously, as I hope the ‘anon’ letter writer does (Songs of praise, August 25).
