A HOUSING office that has been based in Soho for decades is moving to Marylebone.

CityWest Homes made the announcement that housing teams in Soho and Covent Garden Housing Office will move to an office in Lilestone Street, Lisson Grove.

But following feedback from residents, they have agreed to hold two surgeries a week in Soho.

Alida Baxter, who lives in Dufours Place, Soho, said: “It was going to be shut with just three weeks’ notice, which was disgraceful. The situation we have now is vastly different.

“It is a better situation but I still don’t think it’s going to be completely workable. I certainly don’t think it will be as good as having an office permanently staffed here but because they are keeping a room here they will have a chance to find out if it’s workable or not.”

She said that a petition set up by Labour councillor Paul Dimoldenberg had helped get CityWest make the concession, and also thanked Soho ward councillor Paul Church.

CityWest said the new office would offer an “enhanced service” with a village manager, housing manager, repairs surveyors and anti-social behaviour case managers all in one location.

Cllr Dimoldenberg said he believed “it is a big mistake to close the Soho and Covent Garden Housing Office”.
