The ICAT treatment at Whittington Hospital saved my life

‘I do not know if I would be writing this letter without the work from the excellent ICAT services’
• I PHONED my GP two weeks ago because my feet and legs were swollen and I needed someone to look at them.
I was lucky and was second in the queue at 8.30am. I was told a GP would phone me back. Three hours later she did, and said they could not see anybody, this was just a telephone conversation.
I should phone accident and emergency or 111. As I am disabled, so I phoned the ICAT (Integrated Community Ageing Team) at Whittington Hospital.
They responded and phoned an ambulance for me – and within minutes I was taken to the Whittington Hospital and seen by a doctor within an hour.
I spent two days in hospital, the diagnosis being bilateral leg swelling secondary to congestive heart failure. They discharged me with an antibiotics course and Furosemide, a diuretic, and I was to be reviewed in ambulatory care.
The treatment I have received from ICAT in the past few months has saved my life.
A nurse visited me, checked my medication and found I was still taking high blood pressure pills when my blood pressure was low. I was passing out quite a lot. She took action straight away.
I know I have several health problems and we have had this pandemic of Covid-19. I do not know if I would be writing this letter without the work from the excellent ICAT services.
And I do now have follow-up in ambulatory care. Thank you so much.
