The Queen’s Park Gardens football academy celebrates its first birthday tomorrow
A FOOTBALL Academy celebrates its anniversary tomorrow (Saturday) after a successful first year.
Queen’s Park community councillor Ryan Dalton, who co-founded the football club with fellow community councillor Phillip Andokou, said: “It has been brilliant, I don’t think we ever expected it to grow so big. We have six sessions a week now and we just got a new sponsor, Willmott Dixon, which is brilliant and will facilitate us to enter the leagues.”
The Queen’s Park Gardens football academy, which has an under-11s team and an under-15s team, is now looking forward to their first match as a sponsored team. The club, which meets in Queen’s Park Gardens in Ilbert Street, will also soon be sporting a new home kit as designed by under-15s player Daequan Joseph.
Cllr Dalton added: “There were a few times we passed the park and saw just one or two kids playing there, which was quite sad, so we knew something needed to be done. It is all about using the park to its full potential and ensuring people are out there. The great thing about QPG football is it is run by volunteers so our costs are really low and we have some great partners, QPR and London’s Sports Trust.”
The academy’s anniversary celebrations take place tomorrow between 2pm and 4pm in the wildlife area in Queen’s Park Gardens, Ilbert Street.
There will be music, food and drinks including cake, awards, and a raffle. The event will also mark the launch of a new QPG tennis club.
